Rex the robot mower (Segway H3000A-VF)

I purchased "Rex" (Segway Navimow H3000A-VF) as I am no longer able to push a lawn mower of any kind due to age and failing limbs. My son set up the mower which was an easy process of driving around the perimeter of the lawn. The RTK GPS antenna was mounted on the second story of the house with a clear view of the sky. This gives perfect GPS reception which is the most important thing to consider when setting up the mower. Rex has exceeded my expectations; however, this does not mean he is perfect. Over many years my lawn has grown higher around paths and edges leaving a steep raised edge. Rex often gets stuck on these raised edges if his rear drive wheels get of the lawn. My soil is sandy, and rex struggles for traction in sandy soils. Often it is the cutting deck that gets caught on the lawn edge that makes him get stuck. Maybe if Rex could raise the deck if he detects he is stuck, he could get out of a lot more of these situations. I must say Rex does do an amazing job of freeing himself most of the time. The virtual fence (camera) is both rex's best and worst feature. I have found i need to turn off the virtual fence on many mowing zones which then leaves rex vulnerable to obstacles. If rex is on a lush green lawn the vision fence works very well however, if the lawn has even the smallest bare patch rex will not drive over it, and a vision fence exclusion zone must be created. A common problem in Australia's harsh summers. The app is good but could be improved on a lot. The biggest fault Rex will always mow until the end time in the mowing schedule, even if he has finished mowing the zone. There is a setting in the mowing schedule to change the mowing cycle so when rex finishes a mowing zone, he should go back to the charging station even if the scheduled end time has not been reached. This function does not work. No matter what the mowing cycle is set on, Rex will always mow until the end of the schedule time. Even if mowed 100% of the zone, he will start the zone again. A simple software problem which is hopefully fixed in future updates. I am using the latest app and firmware as at 03/02/2024. App version 1.5.1. A manual mow feature would be very useful, so if Rex misses a spot near a curb or potentially dangerous area you can come back and manually mow these areas. Another feature that is missing is being able to select the mowing pattern. Rex automatically selects the mowing path, which works well in most cases. However, if you have a long thin patch of lawn, he will spend a lot of time mowing across the shortest path. It would be nice to set long runs in this situation. An example of this is I have one zone that is 180m long and 2m wide. It takes Rex all day to mow and needs a recharge if mowing sideways and if mowing the long runs, he mows it in about 1 hour. If only I could set the pattern in this zone! This would save the battery a lot because it will reduce the battery recharge cycles.
Would I recommend this mower? 100% yes. The few minor problems are nothing to how good my lawn looks. My lawns have never looked better. And the best part is i do nothing. Rex does it all.
I am sure the few problems will be sorted out in future upgrades and Rex will continue to improve.
Overall, a great product.
